What you need to know

Foreign brokers and taxes. With foreign brokers, you are responsible for filing TOB, dividend tax, and Reynders tax yourself. This requires registering two securities accounts with the CAP and filing an annual tax return.
Securities lending at DEGIRO. With a DEGIRO Basic account, your securities are lent out by default. This increases counterparty risk. A Custody account disables this but may have higher fees.
Capital gains tax 2026. The Belgian federal government is working on a capital gains tax on securities. The exact rules, rates, and effective date are not yet final. Belgian brokers are expected to handle this automatically; with foreign brokers, you may need to file yourself.
